Andre Johnson 2008 Outlook
This entry comes on the heels of Andre Johnson tweaking his groin. Everything out of the Houston camp seems like he’s ok, but there’s a little concern since Johnson missed 7 games last season. I really like Johnson this season, but he comes at an awfully steep price at an ADP of 2.06. Johnson is as skilled a WR as you will find. He belongs in the Braylon Edwards, Terrell Owens, and Randy Moss category for his talent but given that he has been unable to put together an elite season after 5 years, I can’t draft him in the mid second. Last year was his best as far as average production per game. Johnson tallied 851 and 8 in only 9 games. That’s 94.5 yards per game and .89 TDs per game. Even more eye catching was he only finished below 74 yards once and finished the season as hot as it started.
All signs are pointing to Andre Johnson having a breakout season. He’s expected to be fine after his groin tweak. He’s back with the talented QB Matt Schaub after being highly successful in his time with him last year and Houston is improving behind a better line and a slew of serviceable RBs. Nevertheless, I’ll pass on Johnson in the mid second. I’d rather wait until the end of the tier drops in the late second, early third to draft him. I pick him after the likes of Drew Brees, Reggie Wayne, Maurice Jones-Drew, Braylon Edwards, Laurence Maroney, Ryan Grant, Tony Romo, and Terrell Owens. However, as soon as those tiers dry up, I’m snagging him as a borderline elite WR.
