Anquan Boldin Hold Out?
Boldin holding out isn’t likely, but it is fantasy news amongst a myriad of other pros unhappy about their current contracts. It’s hard to blame them under the current regime of NFL bargaining because owner’s can terminate deals at any time. However, in Boldin’s case it appears the friction is because of Larry Fitzgerald’s 4 year $40 million deal.
The desperate Redskins tried to acquire him. So did the Eagles. But it firmly appears the star WR is going nowhere.
You certainly can’t blame the Cardinals as Boldin is a burly WR that can brush off pesky corners in route to catching passes.
Fantasywise, I don’t see Boldin sitting out one week, so I would approach this season as status quo with Boldin.
With Anquan, you get a lot of up and downs depending on the defense and injuries. I’ve downgraded Boldin due to the fact he and Fitzgerald seem to alternate good games and while both can be explosive, they can be equally disappointing which results in inconsistancy. Also, the QB situation of the Cardinals appears to be in flux as Kurt Warner looks to be the better performer while Matt Leinart is obviously the Cardinals’ choice of heart.
While extremely talented and perhaps the strongest WR in the NFL, I have Boldin as a late third round pick at best. At the fourth round, I think he presents decent value based on his realized numbers and potential he has yet to fully display.
Last year he was good for 850 yards and 9 TDs in 12 games. Previously, he has posted 1,200 with 4 TDs and 1,400 yards and 7 TDs in 2006 and 2005 respectively. As you can see, if he puts it all together, he’s worth a great deal, but thus far he hasn’t been the true stud those numbers indicate he could be.
2008 prediction - 1,150 yards 8 TDs
