It’s a battle of two of the very best fantasy football blogs on the planet. The explosive battle kicks off week 1 of the ExpertsDraft league. FantasyFootballBlog.net is already ahead 17-0 behind Brandon Jacobs and Plaxico Burress’s 250+ yards in the NFL kickoff game. I’m hoping I can take him down to get my season off to the right foot but I will need Matt Schaub to play solidly against a tough Pittsburgh defense because he has the scarry Drew Brees throwing the ball. However, he’s also got Lee Evans (probably a near doughnut here) and Marshawn Lynch going up against a stingy Seattle D which should help my duo of Steven Jackson and Marvin Harrison give me points over. Also, any Brees TDs to Colston go in my point column as I have the 3rd year stud receiver. Our defenses lock horns when Minnesota (mine) meets Green Bay. Both of those team QBs are turnover prone so their should be points on both sides on less All Day lights them up.

Jim Zorn you can stop covering your mouth. Nobody wants to steal your plays and defenses already know what you’re doing.

Well that sucked. The NFL opened with a little squeak as the Giants rolled over the Redskins 16-7.

At first it appeared as if the Giants were ready to explode into one of the better offenses, but they grew complacent as the game wore on and did just enough to keep the Redskins at bay.

The Redskins really have nothing. Jim Zorn doesn’t really look like a leader on the sideline, more like an interested observer. I respect the Giants D, but I don’t think they’re as good as Washington made them look. My prediction is Todd Collins takes over as QB in the near future. I like Jason Campbell, but he’s too conservative and isn’t a playmaker.

I didn’t draft Chris Cooley and I am especially glad now. He only had 1 reception for 7 yards. Of course, he’ll do better the rest of the season but don’t expect any type of season that warranted that 7th or 8th you spent on him. Clinton Portis looked the best of any offensive players with an occassional burst, but with little to keep NYG honest, he was held to a modest 84 yards and no receptions. The good news is you’ll see plenty of Clinton Portis as evidenced by his 23 carries.

On the Giants side, Eli Manning’s evening was mixed with the good and bad. He finished with 216 yards, 1 rushing TD, and 1 interception. Unfortunately most of his prowess was diluted after the intial drive when the Giants looked like the next coming of the 2005 Colts. Plaxico Burress was great, finishing with 133 yards on 10 catches. Brandon Jacobs (one of my marked picks) was almost as good, totaling 124 yards. Both had zero TDs, but should get a decent amount as the season grows and easier defenses present themselves.

The only “sleeper” that emerged from the game was Derrick Ward. I hope you weren’t one of those that picked Ahmad Bradshaw in the 10th or 11th. Ward is the backup and used as the lesser in a 60/40 split which makes him a definite handcuff to Jacobs. Ward proved capable as he piled up 60 yards himself. Bradshaw’s playing time will mostly come from return work and filling in as Ward’s backup.

Can’t wait for Sunday.

I want to give you a little bit of text to go by when you’re saying how brilliant or stupid I was in February. First of all, tonight I’ve got the Giants - no big deal here. I’ll say 27-24. On the season, my team is the Patriots. I’ve got them going 14-2 and winning the Superbowl. Fantasywise, I think the New York running game will be big and the New Orleans offense will explode this season with Shockey, Bush, and McAllister all outperforming their draft position. I think the Bears D will be good but wear down as the season goes on and the offense continues their drought. Frank Gore will get injured and again struggle to produce around the goal line. Lamont Jordan will be used extensively with the Pats ahead and have a number of you running to the waiver wires. Also, Donovan McNabb will continue his mediocrity from last season with his limited receiving corp.

Ladainian will continue his status as number 1, but SD will continue to come up short, falling to the Pats. McFadden will receive rookie of the year with 1000 rushing yards, but Fargas will steal some thunder as he also closes in on 1000. The Jets will be average and there will be struggles even with the immortal Brett Favre. I like Gaffney to be the ultimate value pick and Harrison to come back with 8 TDs and 1100. Following, Reggie Wayne’s numbers will deflate. Marion Barber will be a slight disappointment as he gets dinged up as the season goes on. Adrian Peterson will have a similar season with his numbers limited from missed games. Steven Jackson will have a monster year.

Seattle and Minnesota will have awesome Ds and Ryan Longwell, Nick Folk, Stephen Gostkowski, and Adam Vinatieri will be the best from the kicker position

Before I start anything I first want to address a question I saw left on FantasyFootballBox.com. Someone asked about Tony Scheffler and his listing at 3rd on the depth chart for TEs. My take on the Denver TE situation is this: there are three TEs - Nate Jackson, Daniel Graham, and Tony Scheffler. Daniel Graham is seen as the best blocker (this is good). Nate Jackson is probably the best combination of pass catcher and blocker. Scheffler is the best offensive player of the three. Despite the concerns about so many TEs, this is actually the least amount they’ve had in a few years. I wouldn’t worry one bit about Scheffler getting throws to him. In fact, if he’s in the game, they’ll probably using him mostly as an offensive weapon since they’ll want him out if they’re not looking to pass. Scheffler is probably Cutler’s second favorite receiver and I think he’s going to markedly improve on his 549 and 5 from last season. Those numbers came with him missing 1/4th the year. I’ve been picking him in almost every draft - depth chart thrown to the wind. Denver will continue using Scheffler and Cutler will continue passing to him. If you have a worry, be concerned about his somewhat nagging foot injury, but even that looks like it’s in the past. Mike Shanahan may hate fantasy football, but he still knows who keeps the chains moving. I predict 650 and 6 for Tony this season.

Anyways… on to my abyss thoughts. The dust is finally settling and I got my last draft in. It’s now time for the show and greatest sport on earth. Tomorrow will be a smidgen of a small taste of whats to come on Sunday and Monday, but we’ll take it.

If you have starting lineup questions, emailing me is the best way to reach me - though I do check fantasyfootballforum.info and my youtube inbox often. To watch some of my audio/videos go to youtube.com/youfantasyfootball.

Gameday chat is this Sunday at 11:15 CST.

It’s almost here. Almost here.

Word has it that Rudi Johnson left his bags outside CEO Matt Millen’s office when they had a meeting. The bags were absent when they came back out. Video surveillance showed it was none other than Tatum Bell who had taken the bags. It was later revealed that he had left them with a female acquaintance that he hadn’t spoken to in months. Bell claimed he thought the bags belonged to someone he knew.

Unless your league hands out points for criminal mischief, leave Tatum Bell on the waiver wire.
