Peyton Manning Overrated
There I said it.
First problem is he gets drafted by the second round. How many better values at QB can you find? There are a ton.
Second problem is he really doesn’t care about stats. The guy will have 0 TDs and be happy to get the win.
Third is he might not have Marvin Harrison this season and we all saw what happened to the Colts passing game without Marvin Harrison last season. Still respectable, but Peyton had to do a lot more scrambling and got hit a lot more.
Fourth relates to the second problem in that he’s inconsistent. He had 7 out of 16 games less season with 1 or 0 TDs. That’s a lot of games where the star QB you drafted in the late first, early second round isn’t getting the job done.
Fifth is I think the Colts rely on Joseph Addai more next year.
I got Peyton down for 29-14-3900. Nice stats, but give me Tony Romo or Ben Roethlisberger later.
Nice headline, probably gets some attention and I might even agree. Additionally you bring up some good points. He is constantly taken too early in drafts and over priced in auctions. He’s a strong QB and one of the top fantasy point producers at QB in the past several years. He will probably decline a bit this year. But he’s been absolutely the #1 QB in fantasy football recently. What’s overrated is the position of QB in fantasy football. Taking a QB in the first round is rarely a good idea (some QB heavy scoring leagues the exception) since you’ve missed the chance to get a decent RB. In later rounds there will still be solid QBs that are closer to Manning than a second tier RB is to LT for example. So I don’t think Manning has been overrated, the position of QB in fantasy football has been for years.
