Preseason Games of 8/18

48 points from Green Bay? Where’d that come from? Maybe there is some offensive life left in the Packers after all. Rookie James Jones had two touchowns, making me glad I just grabbed him in a dynasty league.

Brady Quinn showed enough in his first action to earn a chance at starting. And why not? Look at the alternatives.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team with more running back depth than the Texans have this year. Still, they are idiots if they don’t let Ahman Green handle the bulk of the carries.

It was good to see Daunte Culpepper have a nice game. He’s had a terrible time since his a spectacular 2004 season. With JaMarcus Russell still holding out, it won’t take much more for Culpepper to secure the starting spot. Take a chance on him if you want to carry a third QB. LaMont Jordan showed he could be worth a backup spot on your fantasy roster, as he had 67 yards and a TD against the 49ers.

Byron Leftwich and David Garrard have both been playing pretty well this season, but I’m almost hoping for Leftwich to fail and hand over the reins to Garrard. He seems to be Leftwich’s equal as a passer, and his rushing ability would likely make him at least a very good backup fantasy QB.

Jason Campbell had a scary knee injury against the Steelers, but the team is expecting him to be back for the season opener.

Both star running backs sat out the St. Louis vs. San Diego game. Bulger had an interception, but otherwise he and Rivers looked good. The Rams sure have given the ball to Brian Leonard this preseason–he is a must as a handcuff to Steven Jackson.

Denver didn’t run very well (for once), but Dallas sure did. Both quarterbacks were a little off–I hope this isn’t a sign that Romo will be as inconsistent as last year, because he has a real shot to end the year close to the top of the QB heap if he doesn’t throw in too many stinkers.

New Orleans’ offense was clicking. Cincinnati’s was kicking, as in lots of field goals thanks to not getting in the end zone. I’m excited to see just how high the Saints passing game will take things this season.
