Preseason Games of Week 3
On Thursday, David Garrard once again looked better than Byron Leftwich. Garrard is going to be a useful spot starter at some point this season–Leftwich has lasted fewer and fewer games each season so far.
The Saints looked good yet again on offense. Consider Olindo Mare when it’s time to grab a kicker–he will have a lot more scoring opportunities than he had the last several years with Miami.
Vince Young owners are breathing a little easier after a much better performance by him on Thursday. I still think he’s too inconsistent to have as a #1 fantasy QB.
Laurence Maroney racked up 15 carries and had a decent 58 yards from them in his first game back from shoulder surgery. I’m not as excited about him as some, but I see him somewhere in the 10-12 range among fantasy backs.
I definitely didn’t expect Oakland to defeat St. Louis 20-10 in a game where the starters were heavily used. I have to believe it was just a fluke. With a highlight-reel 15 yard run, Brian Leonard increased his chances even more of being the main man if Steven Jackson goes down.
The Indianapolis offense was extremely sharp on Saturday. Depending on your league settings it isn’t crazy to take Manning in the first round of your draft.
Jeff Garcia looked pretty bad against the Miami defense. Miami had some success with a little trickery, and the team got it’s rookies more involved. Jesse Chatman may end up stealing a few carries a game from Ronnie Brown.
The Chargers once again showed they are up there with the Colts and Saints as top offensive juggernauts heading into the regular season.
